KerryOn: Encourage the Heart

Take a moment. Encourage the heart. There are as many ways to encourage the heart as there are beating hearts in the world. What is your unique way that you encourage the heart of others? When we encourage the heart of just one person, we can start a movement. That person we encourage may feel empowered to encourage the heart of another, who then encourages another, and thus inspiration grows. Encourage the heart comes from Kouzes and Posner’s practice of exemplary leaders. This practice resonates with me, and I incorporate it as often as possible in my classes. My students identify ways they can encourage the heart to strengthen their leadership skills. It’s a practice, and thus, continually evolves. Students hone this skill and increase their impact in the world.  One way I encourage the heart is by sending special notes to people in my life. These notes include words that provide insight on the importance of the person, the unique gifts they share with the world, and the positive impact they make. It has become a way to share with them what I admire.

You never really know when someone is going through a difficult time. You never really know when someone feels lonely. You never really know when they're struggling. And that is why it’s important to encourage the heart often. Imagine, if we all encouraged the heart of just one person. What a difference we could make. The encouragement of one heart, may have the possibility to change hearts across the globe. So, let’s take a moment and begin with you. Thank you for being you. Thank you for sharing your unique gifts with the world. Thank you for making a positive impact. Thank you for encouraging the heart.
